Most small teams do not need both Notion AI and ChatGPT, but the answer depends on where your work lives. The verdict from documented pricing and published reviews: if your notes, projects and wikis already sit in Notion, Notion AI is the better daily helper because it works on your own pages and is now bundled into the Business plan. If you mostly need a general-purpose assistant for writing, research, analysis and files, ChatGPT is the broader and often cheaper choice, and you can run it alongside a free Notion workspace.

The catch is that both products changed their packaging recently, and sources disagree on exact numbers. Treat every price here as approximate and verify it on each vendor's pricing page. We also leave out any claim about output quality, since we did not run either assistant ourselves.

How We Compared These AI Assistants

We compared Notion AI and ChatGPT using each vendor's public pricing and feature pages, third-party price trackers and patterns in published user reviews. We did not run prompts through either tool, and nothing here is a performance measurement. The yardsticks were the same for both: documented price per user, what is bundled versus metered, access to your own workspace data, collaboration and admin controls, and how much overlap exists between the two.

What Notion AI costs now

Older guides describe Notion AI as a separate add-on of about $10 per member per month. Several 2026 sources say that is stale: full Notion AI now comes with the Business plan, reported at about $20 per user per month billed annually, and with custom-priced Enterprise, and it is no longer sold as a standalone add-on to new customers. Free and Plus workspaces reportedly get only a small trial allowance. Some guides also report metered credits for AI agents billed on top at around $10 per 1,000 credits. Other trackers list Business at $18 or $24, so confirm the live price.

This bundling matters. If you were paying for Plus and a separate AI add-on, you may now need to move up a plan, which raises the per-seat cost even though AI is included.

What ChatGPT costs now

Trackers report ChatGPT Go at about $8 per month, Plus at about $20, and two Pro tiers at roughly $100 and $200 with much higher usage limits. ChatGPT Business is reported at about $20 to $25 per seat with a two-seat minimum, with some sources citing a price cut in April 2026 and higher monthly-billing rates. Enterprise is custom. One tracker also lists an outlier $500 tier that others do not mention, which we ignore. Verify on OpenAI's pricing page, since plan names and limits move often.

Where the two overlap and where they do not

Both tools can draft text, summarize long material, rewrite for tone and answer questions. The difference is context. Notion AI works inside your workspace, so it can search your docs, summarize a meeting-notes database or fill a table property without you copying content in and out. ChatGPT sits outside your tools and relies on what you paste, upload or connect, but it is the more flexible general assistant for analysis, brainstorming, coding help and files.

Published reviews tend to say Notion AI is most useful for teams that already live in Notion, and less compelling to people who would only adopt Notion to get the AI. ChatGPT is described as the stronger standalone assistant, while Notion AI feels like a feature of the workspace.

Collaboration, security and admin

Notion AI inherits your workspace permissions, which helps when pages have different access levels. ChatGPT Business and Enterprise add shared workspaces, admin controls and statements that business data is not used for model training by default, according to vendor documentation. Review each vendor's data policy before putting client material into either one, and check whether your plan includes the admin features you need.

A quick cost scenario for a five-person team

Take a five-person team. Notion Business with bundled AI at the reported $20 per seat comes to about $100 per month on annual billing, and that also pays for the workspace itself. ChatGPT Business at the reported $20 to $25 per seat comes to roughly $100 to $125 per month. Running both would therefore cost around $200 to $225 per month at list price, before any metered agent credits. If the team already pays for Notion Business, adding ChatGPT Plus for only the two or three heaviest users, at about $20 each, is a cheaper way to test whether a second assistant earns its keep. Start small, review actual usage after a month, and cancel whichever tool nobody opens.

So do you need both?

For most solo operators and small teams the answer is no. If you run your company in Notion, pay for Business and use its built-in AI for page-level tasks, adding ChatGPT only if you hit its limits. If you do not use Notion, ChatGPT Plus or Business covers the general needs. Paying for both makes sense when you want workspace-aware AI for internal knowledge plus a stronger general assistant for external research and long analysis, and the combined seat cost is justified by time saved.

The bottom line: pick Notion AI if your team already runs on Notion Business, pick ChatGPT if you want one general assistant, and pay for both only when you have outgrown each on its own.
